In the first Amplify episode on Ellected, a series that amplifies up and coming women in and around politics, host Sarah Elder-Chamanara welcomes Amarit Brar, Organization Chair of the National Women's Liberal Commission. They discuss getting involved in her first campaign, making the leap to federal politics, what winning and losing feels like, why it's important for women of all political backgrounds to run for internal party positions, and Amarit's thoughts on the BC Liberal leadership race.
Amarit Brar was born and raised in British Columbia and has been political from a young age. She first got involved in politics by volunteering on a municipal mayoral campaign, and then found her way to the federal Liberal Party where she champions the voices of women, youth and people from marginalized backgrounds.
Sarah Elder-Chamanara is the founder, creative director and owner of Madame Premier, a feminist and political clothing company based in Calgary, Alberta. With the underlying principle of seeing more women and diversity in politics, elected and in backrooms, at every level, Madame Premier creates the opportunity for conversations about why politics needs to change. Madame Premier has been featured in the National Post, CBC, Forbes and Toronto Star. Sarah is currently planning on opening Madame Premier’s first retail location in summer 2021 in Calgary.
